Food Assistance
Food Stamps
- You can qualify to receive Food Stamps if you are a US citizen or have been a permanent resident for more than five years. You can apply for your children who are US citizens or residents for more than five years, even if you are not.
- Visit your local Department of Social Services or call to request an application.
- Suggestions:
- Fill out the application answering the questions as completely as possible.
- Make copies of all necessary supporting documents to send them with your application.
- Send the application and all copies to your local Department of Social Services. But, make a copy of the completed application before you mail it so that you have a record of what you have sent.
- You should receive information concerning your case status within one month or less. If not, call your local Department of Social Services office to check status of case. It is very important to track the status of your case because 60 days after submitting the application, your food stamp case will close if incomplete. Therefore, it is best to maintain strong communication with your local Department of Social Services to make sure that they have all the information they need to process your case.
- If you have questions or concerns, please call the Hispanic Family Center at (919) 873-0094 Xt. 222.
